Typing tricks and shortcuts in iOS iOS devices
These are not my creation, but I've found the tips in this webpage very useful for mastering iPad (and iPhone) typing. Full credit goes to that site.

There is a list of ten useful tips for making efficient use of the onscreen keyboard(s) in iOS based devices. Some of them are generally known, such as the URL autocomplete and spellchecking completion, but others are less widely publicized, such as the final tip about toggling the alpha and numeric keyboards.

[crarko adds: I tested some of these on my iPhone, and they worked as described. There are some screen captures and a video on the referenced web site which shows how these tips appear. I'm putting this up because keyboard shortcut hints are generally useful things, but I refer you directly to the original site to preserve their copyright.]

Two important ones missing...

1. Tap and swipe upwards to quickly get special characters on iPad.

For example, if you want to type "", press "a" and then quickly swipe upwards, and you'll get a nice "".

Unfortunately, this only works on the iPad and not iPhone/iPodTouch. And it's also depending on the selected keyboard, e.g. with a German keyboard you'll get "", with a French one, you'll probably get an "".

2. Use different keyboards to change the language (and thus the auto-correction's dictionary)

It can really drive you mad to type a foreign text with a keyboard not set to that language (eg. typing an english text with a german keyboard), as all words are being auto-corrected (wahh!). But if you enable the english keyboard as well, you can kind of switch the input language along with the keyboard.

They missed something else that's quite nice: The trick about auto-completing domains by pressing the .com button or a long press to show .org, etc... can be extended by adding international keyboards.

If for example you work a lot with people in the uk who have .co.uk addresses, then you should add the English-UK keyboard. Then iOS automatically adds .co.uk to the list of available autocomplete domains.

Greatly appreciate. This is the sort of article that really helps use the iPad for those of us who aren't sufficiently indoctrinated with the digital world.

So many "undocumented" potentials .. so little ability to recognize. Thank you MW.

The original web page linked to in the hint is returning a 404 Not Found error.
Could an alternate page be sources, or it's original contents republished here?
Thanks.

It is still working for me. They restrict republishing the material directly on other sites, so I won't copy it here.

This is their main page: http://www.labnol.org/

Try that, and search for 'iPad keyboard shortcuts.'
