Safari 5 Undo re-opens the last closed tab Web Browsers
In Safari 4, Undo (Command-Z) simply undid the last action, such as typing, but not more general functions about the browser.

In Safari 5, Undo will reopen the last closed tab, or Undo the closing of the tab.

[crarko adds: I know this has been publicized elsewhere, but thought we should have it here for completeness. This hint was actually submitted by multiple people, and this one was first in the queue.]

Fantastic! It may well have been mentioned elsewhere, but I was so caught up with all the new extensions that I completely missed that feature. Thanks for posting it.

Unlike Chrome, Safari doesn't maintain a tab's history when it is restored.

Yeah it's been doing some strange stuff with the back button's history as well.

Nice to see 'Undo' will re-open a closed tab now -- unfortunately, though, it doesn't maintain the state of the page, so if you accidentally close a tab in which you were typing something, you'll lose everything you entered.

As others mentioned, you also lose the history of the tab.

So…it's still not really an *undo*, per se. A nice convenience in some situations, but not the full recovery it needs to be.

Yeah, please, just look for the bad in everything. Makes life so enjoyable...
How about not closing a tab you're typing in?

Yeah, it's not like it's possible to accidentally close a tab by misclicking the x button or mistyping the shortcut. And it's not like some dynamic web pages change state without changing the URL. /sarcasm.

Safari 4.1 will undo the closing of the tab, too.

In case anyone wonders, Safari 4.1 is the update for Tiger. I had to go look that up. Nice that Apple did that.
