10.6: How to open Freehand MX files in Snow Leopard Apps
Snow Leopard only hintIn Snow Leopard, when opening Freehand files, the app crashes. The fix is to use the Freehand Clip Art Viewer, which is located in the application's own folder. If you browse the hard drive with this utility, then you will see thumbnails of your files -- simply double-click on them to open.

Adobe tech support were of no help at all, as they said Freehand has been upgraded to Illustrator CS4. Hope this helps other frustrated Freehand users.

[robg adds: As I don't have Freehand, I can't test this one, or even confirm the problem.]

You could always re-install Freehand too. Just download the latest trial from Adobe. Then install this fix : http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/504/cpsid_50468.html Your trial will be transformed to an unlimited version. No need of any serial number. Works in Snow Leopard, still have the same bugs as before, but doesn't freeze. Also, Adobe Illustrator CS4 makes quite a good job at opening Freehand files now that it has multiple pages.

Funnily enough I've never had any problems with my Freehand MX in snow leopard. Currently have 11.0.2.

Also Illustrator CS4 is very good at opening freehand files now, and now they've added support for multiple pages, I've moved to illustrator full time.

Personally I still find Freehand easier to use, illustrator still annoys me in many ways even after a year of use. Also amusing is Freehand running in Rosetta feels faster and snapier than the native CS4 illustrator. Crazy stuff.

Seems that this is the problem. The activation component of the software is incompatible with Mac OS X 10.6 preventing the application from launching successfully.
Download the following zip file, decompress and install it in the following location: Macintosh HD\Library\Application Support\Macromedia.

Short of upgrading to the new Creative suite in about a week, I wanted to try the fix you referred to in you positing but I can find no attached "zip" file. Can you clarify?
