10.6: See time zone map change based on seasons System 10.6
Snow Leopard only hintThe following is not a hint, really, but an observation of a cool non-publicized Snow Leapord feature.

While flying home from the west coast this holiday season and changing the time zone on my MacBook, I noticed a new feature on the map that you see in the TIme Zone tab of the Date & Time System Preferences panel: The map of the Earth changes based on the time of the year.

For example, if you set the month to August in the Date & Time tab of the panel, the map will display a lush green northern hemisphere. Setting the date to December changes the northern hemisphere to the appropriate snow cover.

Cool! Hadn't noticed that. I love this kind of attention to detail. The fact that something like this was totally unnecessary just shows you how much people at Apple care about what they do.

Sadly if you have the automatic time zone box checked, the world is very gray.

Interesting! It's Web-loaded, I think. It must be 4 canned images and the real-time images, like EarthLink, must be loaded from the Internet.

The map changes based on the month. I took a dozen screen shots, and I would post the link, but the two times I tried, Geeklog thought it was spam.

Thanks. This is quite interesting. If these pictures are accurate, there are very few places in the southern hemisphere that gets covered by snow.

... so I advanced the date to August 2010 and suddenly a slew of iCal alerts came up. :)

Yes, it works fine. I didn't noticed it before, well done Steve !
A extra feature would be to display where the sun shines and where is night time.

Speaking of night: When you type your city in the field then the earth becomes dark and all the cities are lights. They become less when your selection narrows.
