Hide less-important alarmed reminder events in iCal Apps
iCal's alarms come in handy for those of us who tend to forget the various little things we always need to do. However, you may find iCal getting cluttered with such regularly-scheduled events, pushing other events out of view. But there's a simple solution to this problem.

Go to File » New Calendar » On My Mac, and name the new calendar Reminders or something similar. Put all of your reminders in this calendar, and make sure they all have alarms. Then, simply click on the checkbox next to the Reminder calendar in the sidebar to hide the calendar. Alarms for the hidden calendar will still go off, but all your miscellaneous reminders will no longer clutter your iCal window. (This "hide in other calendars" strategy is useful for other things as well.)

I love seeing these hints that are really just ideas rather than tricks of the OS and when I see them I'm like 'cool, why didn't I ever think of doing that?!'

On a related side note, I used to just create events to remind myself of little tasks and recently started just using tasks in iCal for this (don't know why I didn't use tasks before.) The problem here is there is no way to create them from my iPod Touch as far as I know. Anyone know of a way to do this?

I use an app for my iPhone called "CalTodo" to sync my tasks between my MBP and my iPhone. I've been very happy with it so far. Hope this helps!

Bummer... I was gonna try it but it's no longer available. Apparently Apple rejected the developer's latest version and never told him/her why.

I've been using one called iPronto. It pretty much reproduces the iCal tasks functionality, but on your iPod Touch/iPhone. It could use a little more polish on the interface (syncing has to be initiated manually, and takes more taps than I think it should), but the developer responded positively to my suggestions, so maybe that will improve. Plus, you can set it up such that you can sync from anywhere with an Internet connection, instead of only when you on the same local network as your Mac, and it is less expensive than some of the other options I've found on the App Store.

However, a recent addition called 2Do may get me to switch, once a few updates are made to it. It's interface looks awesome. I am just waiting to see if a few features I want will be implemented, and then I may switch to it.

nice, but is there a way to keep said reminder calendar from syncing across MobileMe? I have reminders/event triggers that are appropriate for one machine but not the other, i now have "error" messages on my machine at home.
