10.6: Drag to arrange mailboxes in Mail Apps
In the version of Mail in 10.5 and below, I could only arrange the mailboxes in the On My Mac section of the sidebar by using a spaces in front of the mailbox names to control their position.

This is no longer required in Snow Leopard -- mailboxes, including those in subfolders, can now be dragged exactly where you'd like them to appear.

It's not just in the "on my Mac" section - it works in IMAP accounts too, and to rearrange the order of sections (such as "On my Mac", an IMAP account, Smart Folders etc).

I guess this bugged a lot of people, because it was one of the refinements that was billed for Snow Leopard. See this page.

It certainly bugged me, but what bugs me a LOT more is that you can't have different sets of column headers in different smart folders - they all inherit each others settings!

Stupid, plain stupid.

this is a definite improvement as the old behavior did bug a lot of people but unfortunately the new change is not completely satisfactory either. some people DO want their mailboxes to be automatically arranged alphabetically. this works with all normal mailboxes but not with smart mailboxes for some reason. if you make a new regular mailbox it's automatically placed in alphabetical order. but a new smart mailbox is simply placed at the bottom of the list.
Doesn't bother me personally but I've seen a number of complaints by people who have hundreds of smart mailboxes and want them automatically alphabetized.

In OSX 10.5, I can move the boxes inside the inbox and the smart mailboxes section around.
