10.6: View queued job counts and ink status Printers
Leopard's printer icon now has a badge, showing the number of jobs queued and the Print tab shows a low ink icon -- only when the ink is low, obviously -- that if clicked shows the ink levels.

[robg adds: I'm not sure if this works for all printers, or only certain printers.]

My Canon iP5200R inkjet printer now shows ink levels even though it's not directly connected to the computer...it's shared wirelessly on a home network via an AirPort Base Station.

However, my HP P2055 LaserJet printer on the same wireless network doesn't show the laser cartridge toner remaining.

Since the technology (collecting info from printers on wireless networks) is obviously available, I hope HP gets on the ball soonest and makes it available the next time they update the printer driver.
