10.6: Take advantage of clipping files' new features Desktop
Clipping files in Snow Leopard have gained significant features. First, they now work with Quick Look. Second, you can open a clipping file and actually select a portion of the text to copy. Finally, they have a fully-functional title bar, so you can Command-click (or Control-click) the title to see the full path.

[robg adds: In 10.5, you actually could copy text from clippings, but the selected text didn't highlight, making it very hard to use this feature.]

But wait!!!

In the following hint, we were instructed on how to enable text highlighting in clippings files.
I enabled this feature 5 minutes after I read the hint initialy, and have been forever grateful:

Oh, and another thing...

I'm still running Tiger (10.4.11) on PPC and Command + Click on the title bar of a clippings window shows the folder hierarchy.

Ooo I've found a bug in Snow Leopard -

if you command click on the clipping's icon and then click on the icon again, it tries to open the clipping as if it was a folder

On a related note, I was pleased to see that cut and paste and creating text clippings are now enabled in the General and More Info portions of Finder Info windows. I'm curious, though, after reading robg's note about cut and paste without highlighting working for text clippings in 10.5, if the same was true for the Info windows.

So does this mean that clipping files don't store their data in the resource fork anymore?

I was extremely saddened to see that all the clipping files I synced up with Dropbox were clobbered because of this mac-specific incompatibility.
