Hidden characters on the iPhone 3.0 Arabic keyboard iOS devices
The Arabic keyboard is supported natively in iPhone OS 3.0. However, there are some missing characters like 'hamza' (ء), and different shapes for some, such as 'alef' (أ ,آ), etc. To see these characters, you have to press and hold on the on the plain 'alef' (ا), then you will see a list of similar shapes. You can also do the same thing for 'Ya`' (ي) to get (ى).

Urdu and Perian can also see their extended characters for 'v' -- press and hold (ف) and, for 'ch', press and hold (ج), etc.

As an addition to this, the Thai keyboard also has a number of hidden characters that are accessed in a similar way by pressing on the "sara" key to the left of the space bar.

Plus, when using the English keyboard, pressing on any of the numbers will give the Thai equivalent.

Even the standard English keyboard has this: press and hold on vowels, etc., to see a full range of variations.

e.g. press and hold on 'E' to see acute-E, grave-E, E with macron, etc.

Press and hold on apostrophe to see left, right, and straight.

I didn't realize that because I never write 'resume' as in CV with an accent on the 'e'.

I found the english keyboard complete that's why I didn't search for a solution. However, the present Arabic keyboard layout is missing basic characters needed for everyday correct texting.

i'd already found these as i had assumed similar functionality after finding the the TLD trick (press and hold '.com' and you will get '.net' and '.edu', etc). the arabic keyboard has been a great plus in extending the abilities of my iphone and making its adoption increase exponentially in kuwait and other arab countries.

Almost every keyboard has hidden characters like this. And the TLD that you get by holding the period-key changes based on the language and region: if you have the Japanese keyboard active, you get ".co.jp" as an option. Have Australia activated as region and you get ".com.au". It's very smart.

What I'd like to see now is press and hold the keyboard key (the globe icon) to get a pop-up menu to select the keyboard. When you have 4-5 active, like I do, it's a pain to have to cycle through all of them to get to the one you want.

If you do not want to change the region code on your Mac according to different region DVD, the best choice would be having an external driver. So your copy software must support external driver. As I know, Mac DVD Copy Pro support external driver.

Shouldn't "Perian" in the last line read Persian?
