One possible fix for broken RSS in Mail

The symptoms: Mail refuses to accept any new RSS feeds. Not by clicking the link "subscribe in Mail" when Safari displays an RSS feed. Nor by taking the URL and copy/pasting it into the address box when manually adding an RSS feed in Mail.

I went through all the usual motions, the most radical being to quit Mail and Safari, delete everything that smells like PubSub and RSS in my ~/Library folder, then log out and reboot. To no avail.

At last I deleted Mail's "Envelope Index" in ~/Library/Mail. As expected, Mail asked to rebuild mailboxes upon the next start-up. Once that was done, RSS feeds worked again in Mail.

Due to the history of how I tackled the problem, I cannot tell whether deleting Envelope Index alone would have solved the issue, or whether the combination of previously deleting RSS and PubSub prefs, cache, ... is required to restore Mail's RSS capabilities.
