One possible fix for broken RSS in Mail Apps
The symptoms: Mail refuses to accept any new RSS feeds. Not by clicking the link "subscribe in Mail" when Safari displays an RSS feed. Nor by taking the URL and copy/pasting it into the address box when manually adding an RSS feed in Mail.

I went through all the usual motions, the most radical being to quit Mail and Safari, delete everything that smells like PubSub and RSS in my ~/Library folder, then log out and reboot. To no avail.

At last I deleted Mail's "Envelope Index" in ~/Library/Mail. As expected, Mail asked to rebuild mailboxes upon the next start-up. Once that was done, RSS feeds worked again in Mail.

Due to the history of how I tackled the problem, I cannot tell whether deleting Envelope Index alone would have solved the issue, or whether the combination of previously deleting RSS and PubSub prefs, cache, ... is required to restore Mail's RSS capabilities.

Nope, that didn't work, trying all the rss/pubsub files along with the index.

I just test added Penny Arcade's feed, and that seems to work. However I still can't see any of my feeds bookmarked in Safari.

My understanding is that users manage subscriptions in Mail and Safari independently. So RSS subscriptions in Safari are not supposed to show up automatically in Mail.

I had this problem a while back, but it went away. I figured that it was just some bug that Apple fixed in a software update that I installed. I guess it's possible I did some system cleaning to fix some other problem and it took care of this one too.

After upgrading to 10.7 could only add Apple RSS and not one i had in 10.6, after a lot of attempts to add this feed, this is what finally worked for me. Ran 10.7.2 combo updater over 10.7.2 and have now added the original RSS.
