Delete digits in iPhone OS 3.0 Calculator iOS devices
For all those missing the backspace key in the Calculator (to remove a number you just tapped), just think like Apple: a little swipe over the display will do it.

Seems quite consistent to me, as you also do this to delete stuff in other parts of the UI, like lists. I don't really understand why this isn't mentioned in the User's Guide -- are they betting on when someone finds out? ;-)

Oddly this only works (in 3.0.0) for digits you type. If you calculate a value, quit, relaunch Calculator and then swipe you will not be able to delete those digits until you type in some new digits.

Nice to know this can be done.

BUT, a swipe takes a lot more effort than a tap on a button, especially when you need to correct a lot of mistyped digits (which can easily happen when in landscape mode with the smaller buttons).

The lack of documentation is Apple's style, but the swipe to delete isn't at all.

Swiping is typically for navigating images or alternate views. For the calculator I'd expect the same. If anything, swiping should switch the calculator among hex, octal, decimal, etc. modes.

Add to that that swiping right to left deletes the leftmost digit, causing the display to shift to the left. In the opposite direction of the swipe.

This is an odd interface all around.

Not here.

If I swipe Right to Left or Left to Right it always deletes the right-most digit as Delete on a Calculator should.

When first I read this, I was hoping that it meant that you could swipe over the digits and the little magnifying glass would appear, letting you select where you want the insertion point. That would be much better, in my opinion.

Fortunately, there are dozens of calculators in the App Store if you don't like Apple's.

Nope! Rob it didn't work in 2.x. I found this hint last week before I upgraded to 3.x over the weekend and tried it out - no dice.

Works as advertised in 3.x tho.
