Create a Reload button on Safari 4's bookmarks bar Web Browsers
One thing I hate about Safari 4 is the relocation of the reload button to the right side of the URL entry area. Sure, you can still use Command-R , but for those who prefer navigating with their mouse alone, here's a cool tip to somewhat solve your problem!

So, drag any of the buttons from my post to the far left of your bookmarks bar, and you've got a simple JavaScript reload button, just half an inch away from where the old one used to be! I've even been nice enough to create different designs using the "Special Characters..." dialog box in all Cocoa applications.

The simple javascript is:
javascript:location.reload(true)
I made them into buttons using some special characters like these: ⤶  ⌘ ⏎ ⎋

Sweet — I love it! Not quite as good as the real thing, but better than nothing.

I guess ⟳ is a bit too small for most screens?

Too bad none of the circular arrows display very well. FWIW, I ended up calling my new button "⌘R".

I don't recommend messing with the contents of the Safari.app bundle (if only as it might break the code signing, which might brake updates). But for those who don't mind doing that and want a button left of the location field: see SAFARI 4 RELOAD FIX on earthlingsoft.net.

Great idea; thanks! And if you place the bookmarklet in the leftmost position of your Bookmarks Bar, you can also just hit Command-1 from the keyboard (easier than Command-R) to reload.

If you want another key mapping, then System Preferences, Keyboard & Mouse, Keyboard Shortcuts might be a better friend?

No, I don't want another key mapping. But it's great to have one "fix" that improves two functions: better mouse access, better keyboard access. Elegant-ish, no?

I don't understand why the new refresh button is so bad. I never use it anyway. It's faster to use the key command.

Agreed. Even more: the only thing for which I like Windows over Mac is the better keyboard shortcuts support.

Well, there's another thing: the multiple windows resize handles. And of course: the lame excuse "Sorry boss, my computer froze and I lost all my work"... ;-)
