Sometimes I want to send pictures of a given iPhoto event to a friend who has some pictures within that event. Easy enough. But what I really want to do is make an album of all pictures from every event that a particular person was at, even if they weren't in all the pictures. There is no option to create Smart Playlists for events that contain the person (I've sent a feature request to Apple for this ability).
Today I stumbled upon the solution. If you open up that person in Faces, select all the pictures, and then go to Events ... magically all the events that had pictures selected are now selected. Make a new album and drag the events into it. All pictures from the events are now in that album.
Note that you may have to drag-and-wait for iPhoto to catch up, since it has to calculate the thousands of pictures that you are dragging.
