Use modifier keys with Active Screen Corners System
You're probably aware that you can add modifier keys to the Exposť, Dashboard, and Spaces activation keys. Hold down any/all of Shift, Command, Option, or Control while setting any of those features' activation keys, and the modifier keys will then be needed to activate that feature. This isn't a hint per se, because Apple documents it in the small text that appears above those sections of the Exposť & Spaces System Preferences panel ("for more shortcut choices, press Shift, Control, Option, or Command").

What does strike me as a hint (perhaps obvious to some/many of you) is the fact that these modifier keys can also be added to the Active Screen Corners section of the Exposť tab on that panel. Click the top left menu in that section, for instance, and then hold down the Command key, and you'll see that each option is displayed with the active modifier key(s). I rarely use the screensaver, but there are times when I'd like to activate it, but never accidentally due to a mouse drag. So I've now got it set to activate only when I have the Command key down when I drag the mouse to the top left corner of the screen. Perfect.

Unlike the panels for Exposť, Dashboard, and Spaces, there's no explanatory text for the Active Screen Corners section that would let you think this possible, but it seems to work just fine.

That's awesome. A great hint for mouse-oriented people who otherwise find screen corners really annoying.

Indeed, I hadn't noticed you could add modifiers for hot corners. Great tip!

Dammit. I was hoping this hint would let you assign multiple actions to each corner as I don't have enough corners to go around. I would like to set a corner to show all windows that by holding down option would show spaces (i.e zoom out more)

What, you mean you don't have one of the new hexagonal displays yet? I thought everyone would have upgraded by now ;)

I agree with you completely. Having set up corners for spaces, all windows, app windows and desktop, I need one for dashboard. I know I can use a keyboard button, but if you're mouse centric like I am, switching between mouse and keyboard is actually worse than being forced to use keyboard only.

Plus, using corners doesn't half impress Windows users, especially with drag and drop!!

This hint isn't so much use for me, as I'm pretty well in control of my corners, but it'll be great on my wife's iMac as she often activates corners accidentally, yet does need them.

I'll have to see if the modifiers get in the way of any drag and drop operations, but I'm guessing it'll be OK.

I'm with leenoble_uk! I have my mouse center button set to do 5 different things depending on the modifier combo I'm using when I click it. I want to be able to do the same thing with the hot corners. Option should do one thing while command does another and Shift does a third!
I think there are at least 15 different combos you can do with the modifier keys (more if you can use left and right sides separately)!

I tried assigning screen saver or display sleep, and I noticed for those I have to be sure to release the modifier key right away after the cursor hits the corner, otherwise releasing the key wakes the screen back up. But it does work if I'm quick.
