Play songs from multiple playlists in iTunes Apps
This may be well known to many, or it may seem incredibly obvious, since folders have been allowed in iTunes' playlists since iTunes 5 was released four years ago, but I just figured this one out...

If you have a bunch of playlists in a single folder, you can play all of those playlists as if they were a single playlist by selecting the folder and playing it. Anything you can do with an ordinary playlist -- shuffling, sorting, etc. -- you can also do when playing a playlist folder. The hint works with folders that contain ordinary playlists or smart playlists.

[robg adds: I thought we had this documented here somewhere from years ago, but I couldn't find it. As far as I know, though, there's no way to combine playlists from multiple folders (i.e. Shift and/or Command don't work to select more than one playlist).]

There is a way to combine multiple playlists from everywhere:

1. Make a new smart playlist
2. Matches any of the following rules
3. Set all your rules to be the playlists you want to play.

However, this requires creating yet another playlist, and I think the intent of this hint was to avoid that and do something quickly and easily in the GUI.

I love folders! I keep a folder specifically for tossing in any playlists I want to temporarily combine.

Then I take it further by making a smart playlist that includes anything in that folder, but excludes anything played too recently. I select the smart playlist in iTunes DJ (or just play it in shuffle mode) and I've got me a very smart shuffle!

FWIW, "Show Duplicates" doesn't work on a folder.

Bummer.
