Find apps in Spotlight even when using 'wrong' language System
Sometimes I will try to find a program using Spotlight with the wrong input method selected (yes, I can't touch type). An easy way to solve this is to log in as an administrator, and put the app's name, in your often-used language, into the app's Spotlight comments box (press Command-I with the app selected to see the comments box).

Type the app's name as if you were typing in English. So for Mail, a Japanese language user would enter まいl ; a Greek language user would enter μαιλ, etc.

I also do this, but when I can't remember the name of a rarely-used but indispensable utility. I put keywords or even categories in the spotlight field.

search for "kind:app game" and I see a nice list of all my little freeware games that I otherwise forget!

Of course, spotlight comments aren't saved if you overwrite the app with a new version, so beware!

It actually was saving everything for me, both: Spotlight comments, and custom icons, when I upgraded apps either by dropping new ones, or via Software Update.

I used this tip as well.
Unfortunately it stopped being useful with Apple apps on 10.6
It simply refuses to accept any entries - comments field seems to be disabled on Apple's apps.
(If you upgraded from 10.5 you comments are there, but useless as well - spotlight doesn't find them)
