Make GlimmerBlocker work with sites that use Pheedo Web Browsers
I use the proxy-based ad blocker GlimmerBlocker and visit sites, including Macworld, that use Pheedo. I noticed that the Macworld vodcasts were turning up empty in iTunes. The cause, it turns out, is that GlimmerBlocker blocks Pheedo.

There is a workaround though -- just create your own list, and add a whitelist for host www.pheedo.com, path /click.phdo with priority 3. Then any Pheedo-using sites will work just fine.

Or, you could simply disable it's entry in GlimmerBlocker's Filters tab. Look for "*.pheedo.com" and click the checkbox until it's disabled.

BTW, macosxhints.com is one of the sites that don't work with GlimmerBlocker and the pheedo.com problem. (At least with me)

Thanks! Unchecking the box in the Filters tab of Glimmerblocker worked! I've been having problems with sites: MacWorld, Mac OS X Hints, etc. not working in NetNewsWire for some time, but had not figured out that it was Glimmerblocker that was blocking them. Strange... You would think that pheedo would not cause the entire site to be blocked.

I wasn't able to get this hint to work--maybe I missed something. But I did turn off pheedo.com in the filters and that did work--thanks VesperDEM.

Safari adblocker and Saft also block pheedo feeds like Mac OSX Hints; in adblocker, I added a "don't block" to elements containing *click.phdo*, and in Saft I deleted the block for www.pheedo.com/

Of course, if the point is to block ads, then any ads that pheedo attaches to these websites will now be allowed. Thereby defeating the purpose of an adblocker, at least with these websites that use pheedo.

Score one for pheedo.com

Doesn't work for me, because making this change shows the ads.

So looks like I won't be bothering with sites that use Pheedo in the future, at least until someone comes out with a decent workaround.

(Of course, if Pheedo would only run non-intrusive, non-animated, non-oversized "look at me, I'm more important than the content of this feed" ads then I could just allow them. You know, like The Deck do — they're an ad company that Gets It[tm]. But I'm not having a load of bouncing, dancing rubbish distracting me.)

For me it is score -1 for sites that use pheedo. Like I found out minutes ago that MacOSXHints does when my live bookmarks didn't work.

Either they switched to pheedo, or I blocked it since the last time it worked. Doesn't matter, pheedo is joining my extensive list of sites blocked at the router.
