Name -- does not contain -- (leave the field blank)

While iPhoto 09's new facial recognition is pretty good, it's not perfect. You can help it out by creating a smart album and manually tagging faces. To find a list of photos of everyone who hasn't been tagged by their face yet, simply create a new Smart Album with the following criteria:
Name -- does not contain -- (leave the field blank) You can then quickly tag a bunch of photos, and iPhoto should begin recommending a few more.

This doesn't work, it just gives every photo that doesn't have any name associated with it. That includes all photos that don't have ANY faces, and ignores photos that have any number of unknown faces but at least one known face.

This works fine if 1 face is detected in the photo.. if multiple faces are detected in the photo by the time you type one in and press tab it moves to the next photo automagically.

This seems to be working fine for me. When I view a photo that has unknown names I press 'enter' to highlight the text and type the correct name and then press 'tab' it goes to the next unknown name on the same photo. The photo doesn't disappear from the album until I press the arrow key to go the next pic.

This hint only partially works when you have more than one face in a photo, because after you name one person, the condition "Name Does Not Contain (null)" no longer applies, and the photo is removed from the smart album.

The fix for the smart album problem of moving on before you can identify a second face is to use the smart album to create a regular album of the same files. I just couldn't type fast enough to get a second face identified.

also try: Smart Album, select the Face property, then "is", then "unnamed".
