Note, however, that the iPhone will still correct the capitalized first word of a sentence, as it should be capitalized anyway.

Disable iPhone predictive text for individuals words

I have noticed recently that the iPhone will not try to automatically correct your typing if you capitalize the first letter of the word that you are typing. So if you are typing the name of a road, for instance, it's worth making the effort to capitalize the initial letter, so it doesn't get "corrected" later on.

Note that it's actually more effective to have the autocorrection happen, but cancel it by 'clicking' on it -- that way it will learn your new words and correct them properly next time.

That's true if the word you're typing is one that you want to displace the correction. However, this isn't always the case. Recently I've been texting my address a lot and 'st' (as in the abbreviation for street) will get autocorrected to 'at'. Generally, when not texting my address, 'at' will probably be what I wanted to type and it will always be the default autocorrect suggestion because I use the word at a lot more than st. So, in this case, manually correcting is not what I want to do. Personally, I find hitting the shift button breaks my flow less than going for that little auto-correct-cancelling x.

Simply dismissing the correction by pressing the 'x' does not seem to ever, ever make iPhone learn the word. Search Google for "ducking iPhone" for some examples. The only solution I've heard, unless you want to start treating curse words as proper nouns (and capitalizing them), is to add the word in the 'name' fields of a contact.

There are still some things it doesn't learn though - like 'xx' which it always turns to 'fx' - very annoying! |
