Retain event names when importing images in iPhoto Apps
This is a useful hint for users who have their photos organized into folders and folders of events, all carefully named. This makes importing into iPhoto seemingly straightforward, especially with the advent of Events in iPhoto.

But neither dragging the folders in, nor using the File » Import to Library menu will retain your folder names (which in this case, are your event names).

I have found rather by fluke that hitting Undo after importing will restore your event names. It seems the auto-splitting function renames events to the date your images were taken, and undo just undoes that last bit.

Events pretty much suck for my use of iPhoto. Every photo HAS to be in an event. I take a lot of pictures documenting simple things. Documenting connector wiring IS NOT AN EVENT. So I've got a bogus event that I dump all my pics in, and then move them to meaningful events.

It's such a pain that I don't ever look or use events anymore.

Stop the bloat, and make the core program faster and less buggy!

What version of iPhoto are you running? With 7.1.4 All folders and subfolder that I drag into iPhoto's window result is Event names that are the same as those of the folders and subfolders. My iPhoto Event preferences are set as follows: the checkbox under Autosplit events into ..... is left unchecked like seen here. I've never had a folder's name changed during import into iPhoto as an event.

Sounds like a Microsoft Word type "feature" wherein undo is required for some functionality. For example, in Word, setting a format to a line will change the whole section, but undo will make it just the line like you would expect. In other words, it's bad; undo should only undo, and undo everything.

What you are describing is the "autosplit" feature. If you don't want the program to do this go to preferences -> Events and uncheck the Imported from finder box... it is at the bottom of the window.
