Installing apps on multiple iPod touches/iPhones iOS devices
I found it necessary to go through an authorization process to use apps from the iTunes app store on a second iPhone/iPod Touch. This might seem unremarkable but, curiously, the computer on which the apps were saved in iTunes was already authorized for iTunes purchases and, on attempting to sync the apps to the second iPhone, the obtuse error message was that "this computer" was not authorized for the apps.

The hint to make it work was to double click on each app icon in the iTunes list (while the receiving iPhone is connected) and authorize the app for use on another machine (up to five can be authorized).

The reference in the error message to "this computer" clearly is meant to be "this iPhone/iPod Touch."

I don't know but it seems to me that has always been the case. It took me some times to figured out why my iTunes purchases were already authorized for 2 computers when I only had one plus my iPod (5th gen)...

Interesting... I have an iPod touch and an iPhone 3G, and the apps are installing fine on both devices (at the same time!) without any need for authorisation. I must admit I assumed that Apple had taken the same approach as with music: any number of iPod's can sync with the music list...

In fact, I was hopeful that there would be some information-sharing between devices via iTunes sync, but alas no. Specifically, I have the WordPress app installed, and I was hoping that a draft on (say) my iPhone would also appear on my iPod touch.

I believe iTunes uses the same authentication for apps as it uses for the music. If you have the other computer authorized to play music, it can install the apps on the iphone or ipod touch too. So an alternative method to getting this to work would be to just got the Store menu, then select "authorize computer".

You don't have to have the phone connected. Simply double clicking will suffice.

Just go to Store > Authorize Computer, enter the account details for the account that purchased the apps, done. No need to go clicking every app!

For a project I need to install a filebrowser app on 20 Ipod's (touch)
and then fill them with content... pdf's, doc's, ppt's mp4's etc

These iPods will then be for clients. so I can't authorize the 20 iPods...

Does any one know a simple way to install this content without authorizing ?
