Reduce iWow for iTunes' CPU usage on slower Macs Apps
I've been using iWow for iTunes some time now. It makes my music sound great, but there is a downside to it ... if you have a 'slow' Mac like mine (mini 1.42 GHz), it eats up to 42% of the CPU. During CPU intensive tasks, that can be a real pain.

After adjusting some settings, I've come up with a way to reduce the CPU usage significantly! Adjust the settings to look like the ones in this image, and make sure you save those settings.

After these adjustments, disable iTunes' built-in equalizer. After switching to these settings, my CPU usage with iWow dropped down to around 9%. Good luck!

Minimise iWow

I've found that minimising (or what ever it's called, clicking on the yellow circle in the top left of) the iWow window makes a big difference. 30-35% CPU utilisation down to 2-3% on my macbook.

wow, I didn't believe how would minimizing an application would result in such drastic reduction in its CPU usage. But it does work. Mine got reduced from 33 - 39% to 9 - 12%. Thanks for the tip.

I'm running a 2.5 GHz G5 PowerPC, and iWow adds less than 2% CPU usage to iTunes. I cannot image running OS X on hardware that is so underpowered that iWow hogs 42% of CPU usage.

Seems to work in my PPC G4: from 22% to 13%.

I have a better solution. Don't use iWOW. Get a nicer audio solution to jack your mac into. Save the CPU cycles. Stop mangling your music with 'makes it sound better' gimmicks and put the money where it matters; into your soundsystem.

A portable sounds better with iWow where there's no sound system option!
