Elgato changed the appearance of the OnScreen Editor in EyeTV 3.x. In prior releases, the editor was placed outside the recorded content, which was very helpful whilst dealing with subtitled movies and other important visual information that appeared in the lower part of the movie content. Version 3 made the editor a somewhat blurry background in this content area, making it almost impossible to recognize whats going on "under" there.
I managed to get rid of most of the dark grey parts by editing some files in Photoshop. All files are located in the EyeTV bundle (Control-click and choose Show Package Contents, then navigate into Contents » Resources):
- OverlayBG.bottom.png,
- OverlayBG.bottomleft.png
- OverlayBG.bottomright.png
- OverlayBG.htile.png
- OverlayBG.left.png
- OverlayBG.right.png
- OverlayBG.top.png
- OverlayBG.topleft.png
- OverlayBG.topright.png
The only thing you need to do is Select All in your graphics editor, press Delete and then Save. The files then become totally transparent parts in the user interface, and don't block the underlying content of the movie. All the other elements (the time-bar, edit buttons, and so on) remain untouched in their usual position. It took me only five minutes to change EyeTV 3 into a suitable solution for my needs.
