Use Teleport with VNC for total remote keyboard control Network
One thing I dislike about using most VNC viewers is the inability to use commands like Command-Tab for switching applications, or Command-Space (my Quicksilver shortcut). A previous comment (and this hint) described using Teleport. And others have pointed out a VNC viewer that is built into OS X. This hint simply points out the beauty of combining those two bits of info.

If you use Apple's VNC and Teleport, you can simply drag the mouse off-screen while still viewing your VNC display, and have full keyboard access to the remote machine. Command-tab program switching and launching is a lot easier, as is activation of the Dock if you have it set up to appear when the mouse is dragged off-screen.

Now, if only, copy/paste and drag/drop worked between the machines. Then I'd be totally set.

[robg adds: Using a utility like ClipboardSharing and/or DropCopy can help with drag/drop and copy/paste problems. ClipboardSharing includes an Autosync panel that will automatically sync a clipboard between multiple machines, and DropCopy creates a small drop zone on all machines to make it easy to drag an drop files across the network.]

Copy/Paste and Drag/Drop DO work with Teleport, that is one if its most amazing features. I often use this combined with VNC to control my iMac whether I'm in the same room or across the house. You get a nice little "Pasteboard sent" notification, or in the case of dragging files or folders, a transfer status bar.

Aaaaaaaaaaaah! I'm the hint submitter and I just found the copy/paste & drag/drop features over the weekend. Very excellent!

The hint works except with at least two different VNC clients (Chicken of the VNC, Jollyfast VNC) and two different servers (OS X Screen Sharing, Vine Server) the mouse pointer does not show on the remote though clicks and drags register on the remote. Without the pointer the hint is not useful. Client is on a 10.4 Mac, host is on a Mac is a 10.5 mac.

I noticed this too and indeed if you use those VNC apps the hint is not very useful. I'd suggest using Apple's built in VNC as I find it to be quite fast, invokable from "Connect to Servers" in the Finder (eg vnc://machine.local), and I generally like to use built-ins when I can. Give it a shot...

Sorry for duplicate post, but I wanted to keep the thread. I don't believe that is an option with a 10.4 client.

not only are you ABLE to COPY/PASTE & CLIPBOARD SYNC, you also regain keyboard goodies such as use of the Function keys (for things like Expose, Dashboard, and ejecting), the Force-Quit Window, and even Zooming (Control+2-finger-scrolling-on-trackpad)!

i'm also compelled to mention that i wrote this [almost] exact article a few weeks ago here (on corewerkz.com), including a video example of the hint in action.

I use it to control all my workstations with one mouse. Love it and it works for PC, MAC, and Linux!
