10.5: Integrate EyeTV with Front Row via PyeTV Apps
PyeTV is a free (open source) Front Row plug-in which allows access to EyeTV from within Front Row on Leopard, adding an EyeTV item to Front Row's top level menu. The plug-in gives access to EyeTV's recordings (grouped by series), along with an image preview and recording metadata.

PyeTV also integrates with ETVComskip, which allows users of EyeTV to enjoy commercial-free recorded television. PyeTV provides capabilities for turning commercial skipping on and off from within Front Row, as well as starting a commercial search for recordings which do not have commercial markers already.

Note that EyeTV 3 actually has Front Row integration built in-- it's disabled by default and can be turned on using a hidden preference. Works much better than PyeTV in my experience.

Thanks!!!

I'll be damned! I learned a very interesting trick today. If you execute this command in the Terminal:

defaults write com.elgato.eyetv "apple remote menu button behavior" -int 1

EyeTV's prefs will be modified and there will be a 'FrontRow' item added to the 'More' menu. It also switches the behavior of the 'Menu' button on the Apple remote so that a single press brings up EyeTV and a long press brings up FrontRow.

I'm aware of the hidden preference to change the behavior of the "menu" button on the apple remote, but this isn't really integration of EyeTV and Front Row---that preference just makes it a bit easier to toggle between EyeTV and Front Row.

With earlier versions of EyeTV, at least the menus looked the same, but with EyeTV 3, the on-screen menu in EyeTV looks entirely different from the Front Row one, so it's not a clean user experience.

Finally, I personally find using the EyeTV menu cumbersome. After you've watched a recording, if you want to delete it with the EyeTV menus, it takes about six steps to find the recording again in the recording list and delete it. With PyeTV, there's a "delete" option right there, one step away.

I've tried to make the EyeTV/Front Row integration as seamless as possible, but I'm always interested in ways it can be improved. What don't you like?

Am I missing something?

If I download PyeTV, I get a file called "PyeTV-1.1.dmg 2.bz2"
Then, I decompress this with the Finder, and I get "PyeTV-1.1.dmg 2.bz2".

Then, decompressing this, I get again "PyeTV-1.1.dmg 2.bz2".

What am I doing wrong?

The downloaded file seems to have the wrong extension- just rename the file extension ".dmg" (i.e. remove the .bz2 part) and it should work (it did for me).
