If you've ever wanted to copy an Apple Remote Desktop setup from one machine to another, you need to move a number of files. Open Terminal, and run the following commands -- modify the username and machinename settings as necessary for your environment. Note that the lines that start with ### are explanatory; don't type those...
Note that this should preserve passwords as well. This Apple article was used to come up with this solution.

Presets you might have created (I have a ton of them) are located in ~/Library/Application Support/Remote Desktop/Presets

I've transferred my installation from my old PowerBook G4 to my new MacBook Pro, following these instructions, but I get a dialog box asking for the Remote Desktop password. And when I enter the same Remote Desktop password which was set on my old computer (and still works) it says that it's incorrect.

It didn't work for me either, I had the same problem with the password. I am surprised, because I have done this before and it has worked. The only difference I can see in my past attempts and this one is that this was from my G5 tower to my new Intel iMac - perhaps the different architecture?

I just had to do this, and found that the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist also had to be sent. |
