Assign keyboard shortcuts to NeoOffice menu items

If you use a given NeoOffice menu item all the time, like Tools » Word Count, you may want to assign a keyboard shortcut for it. If you use the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard & Mouse System Preferences panel, however, it will not work when you try to use it in NeoOffice. Instead, you need to do assign a shortcut using NeoOffice's built-in keyboard shortcuts tool. Follow these steps:

  1. Select Tools » Customize from the menubar. In the new window that opens, click the Keyboard button.
  2. Choose a key that hasn't been assigned yet in the upper section. Then choose a function in the lower section and click Modify.
  3. Click Save and save the configuration file somewhere.
  4. Click Load and open the configuration file you saved, then click OK.
You should be able to use your newly-assigned shortcut now.

[robg adds: Confusingly, using the Keyboard Shortcuts tab looks like it works -- the shortcuts are added to the menu items in NeoOffice, but they don't do anything when invoked. The only problem with the built-in method is that there are a limited number of defined keyboard shortcuts available.]
