Although Safari 3 didn't come through for me completely, they did add one feature that gets me part of the way there, and I have found more than one use for it. The History » Reopen All Windows From Last Session command is that new feature, and it's all we have for now. Beyond the expected uses (Safari unexpectedly quits with many windows/tabs open; or I have to reboot my system), here's a way to use it in conjunction with Private Browsing.
Safari's Private Browsing feature is great for offering a simple way to browse websites without keeping anything in your history or cache. And it's not just for adult sites. A few things come to mind -- birthday present shopping, peeking at engagement rings (without actually committing to anything or getting a loved one's hopes up), or looking for the proper ointment for that strange rash you ... um ... I mean your friend ... developed after a weekend away.
Well, using the Reopen All Windows From Last Session command along with the Private Browsing feature can help really hide what you've been up to. Even if you've got a number of windows/tabs open, you can start your Private Browsing session on top of them in a new window. When you're done with your private sites, simply quit Safari, relaunch, then use the Reopen All Windows From Last Session command. (An apparent bug in this will open a blank tab/window for all of the private sessions you had, but you can close them easily enough.) And with a few or more windows open, it doesn't look like you just quit Safari to clear your tracks.
