Temporarily override alignment guides in iWork Apps
When I'm laying out photos to be printed, I normally use Pages to set them to the size and position I want. So it's a major annoyance that once there's a lot of stuff on the page, the picture I'm dragging will snap to the automatic alignment guides all the time -- so I'm forced to use the arrow keys for fine control.

But I've found a new way out. Press Command while dragging the picture, and the automatic alignment guides will be disabled.

This behavior mirrors what happens when manipulating objects in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint: objects by default want to "snap" to a layout grid but when you press the command key, you can then move and resize them more precisely.

This is the standard behaviour in many applications, for example OmniGraffle, Gimp and the other iWork-Apps of course.

If you never need to use them, you can always go into the Preferences and disable them under General -> Alignment Guides.
