Get a true Windows XP disc by using VirtualPC Apps
I know there are hints here (1, 2) to turn the XP installation that came with VirtualPC into a usable disc for Boot Camp and/or Parallels.

I wanted to let everyone know that if you can still boot into VirtualPC on your old machine, or if you have proof of purchase, you can call Microsoft at 800-360-7561 and ask them to send you a replacement CD. They will ask for either the proof of purchase, or a multi-digit number that can be found in system properties. Once they have this information to show that you have a valid copy, they will send you an install CD at no charge. I know there used to be a $25.00 fee or something like that, but this is no longer the case.

Same here. In fact, I had to pay the $25 disc charge, shipping *and* sales tax. Still, even for $30, it's basically worth it, saving the time and general fumbling about it would take to create my own install disc.

Perhaps there's something in how you answer the question about why you need the disc. I was upfront, saying I wanted to use the VPC license for a Boot Camp version. Did I pay the honesty tax for not just saying "me lose CD, me no find it"?

No go here. The registration number shows as an OEM product, and the service rep said I can only get a replacement through whomever I purchased it from.

This didn't work for me at all - "John" on my call said that he could only replace like for like, and not working on an Intel Mac was not a "defective" replacement.
