Easily identify rental movies in the iTunes Store Apps
It can be frustrating to find movies available for rent from the iTunes Store. Here's an easy way to do so.

After selecting the iTunes Store source, go into "browse" mode in iTunes by clicking the little eye icon at the bottom-right of the iTunes window. Select Movies in the left-hand column of the browser, then choose a genre from the other column. Click the Price column to sort by that criterion. In the list of movies, any movie that has "View Movie" or "Add" in the Price column is available for renting. (But not those that say "Add Movie"; you can tell by their prices.)

[kirkmc adds: Rob posted this hint last week, after we were chatting about how to find movies for rent. Today's hint is another method, which seems, in my testing, to be a bit easier to use, though you have to browse by genre. It's surprising that Apple doesn't make this easier.]

i was bugged by this too until i found the power search feature. Click under quick links on the far right of the main page, Drop down 'power search' drop down to movies, click box 'search movies that are available for rental' and put in a name, actor, director, etc....

It's not necessary to enter any search criteria. Just select 'search movies that are available for rental' and click the Search button. All the rental movies will be shown.

I guess I see the same annoying problem but have the easiest solution of all.

Click power search, select "Movies" dialogue box, Click the check box that appears: "Search Movies that are available for rental." Leave all fields blank and click search.

Boom, All rentals are shown. You can then click on any columns to sort by rating, Name, Genre, etc.
