10.5: Combine and modify images using Preview Apps
With Preview in Leopard, you can now combine multiple images into one image. Open Image #1, click and drag to make a selection, copy to the clipboard. Then open Image #2 and paste the clipboard contents. From there, you can drag the selection to reposition it.

You can also use Preview's new selection tools (Extract Shape and Instant Alpha) to make an irregular shaped selection. When you have part of an image selected, you can also Command-Drag the corner handles to rotate the selection. Here's an example of the results that can be achieved with minimal effort.

Doesn't work for me
Authored by: thuldai on Feb 05, '08 01:05:16AM

I tried to combine two images into one. It's a scanned document that was too big for the scanner, so a trivial job of joining/overlapping the one piece over the other.

It seems to do it and I save but when I reopen the joined image, only the one image is there (#2 in your description).

I tried it with the original tiff's (.tif), with tiff's that I resaved from within Preview (.tiff), jpgs that I made using iPhoto as Preview wouldn't allow me to save my tiff's as jpg's (what's up with that?).
I also saved as pdf and tried to merge those, but there it wouldn't even let allow me to paste the cutout of #1 into #2.

What am I doing wrong?
What exactly did you do?
Is it a problem that the new image is larger than the old one was? Do I have to reset a bounding box or something like that?

Finally, if Preview.app cannot do it, who else?

Thanks for any help

Thuldai

Try the freeware app Combind PDFs:

Works with images, and not PDFs only.
