Use a widget to replace the lost SMS functionality in 10.5

If like me, you've been tearing your hair out over the loss of Address Book's SMS functionality in 10.5, the free emitSMS widget might help the pain go away (I have no affiliation with the product).

Unlike iChat's new SMS functionality, it will work for non-AOL or .Mac subscribers, and claims to work with most major phone brands (my SE T610i works). It fetches numbers from Address Book (only the "mobile" field), and even adds a couple of tricks: long messaging and confirmations, although there's no pop-up incoming SMS notifications like those of old.

Still, considering the cost of most Bluetooth phone suites, this is a worthy workaround for Apple's inexplicable axing of this feature. Real SMS obsessives can even stick it permanently on their desktop to save Dashboard lag.

[robg adds: It appears the widget works in 10.4 too, which is why this hint isn't labeled as 10.5 only.]
