That Sync menubar item randomly showed up on my Mac during beta testing and it was driving me crazy until I finally figured out that it could be turned off in iSync.

You can get rid of any optional menu extra by holding down command when clicking on it and just dragging it out of the menu bar.

Technically this isn't a Leopard-only feature. Panther (10.3) also had this ability, but it was (mysteriously) removed in Tiger. Glad to see it's back... just in time for me to have a phone that doesn't use iSync.

That is indeed correct. I'm glad to see it's back. I never God why Leopard removed it.

If you don't have .Mac, then you can't access the tab to turn on the menubar item.
