While in Mail.app, I hovering over the Save button in an email that had five photos attached. For the first time, I noticed the tooltip text that stated:
"Click to save all attachments, or press to save individual attachments or add photo attachments to iPhoto."
So, if you press and hold on the Save button in an email, you are presented with an option to automatically add all attachments to iPhoto (or to save any one of the attachments, without saving all). Sweet! If this is there in 10.4, I apologize, it is just that I have wanted this kind of functionality before, and never noticed it being available until now.
[robg adds: This exists in 10.4, too, though the tooltip text is different. There's a drop-down triangle on the Save button, which indicates there's a menu there, but Mail's treatment of a click on the triangle icon is interpreted as a click on the Save button. You must click-and-hold to get the menu to appear. A simple tip, but one that some may have overlooked.]
