10.5: View mounted shares in the sidebar

The 10.5 Finder's sidebar brings the new SHARED section, which lists all the file servers it sees on the network, and you can click each to get a list of shares and see (via the eject icon) which you are connected to. However, there is no longer an option to see the shares you are connected to directly in the sidebar -- apparently shares are supposed to just be accessed through the SHARED section. There is, however, a way to work around this issue and get a semblance of the 'old' behavior back:

  1. In the SHARED section, mount the drive you want listed in the sidebar.
  2. Drag the mounted share from the SHARED section to the DEVICES section.
The share will now appear and disappear from the devices section when mounted an unmounted, just like in 10.4. This does, of course, come with the caveat that you have to manually add each share you want to see, but once added, they behave as expected. Also, for some reason, it would appear that the drive must be mounted before dragging to the devices section. Attempting to drag an un-mounted share just results in a "not allowed" cursor.
