10.5: Use IRC '/me' action in iChat Apps
iChat now supports at least one IRC 'action' -- the /me action. Just type /me whatever you want to say, and it will be seen (by other 10.5 iChat users, at least) as a message that shows up between the normal conversation flow.
10.4 users, and probably those of other AIM chat clients, will simply see /me whatever you want to say, and might be a little confused by your new choice of syntax.

Yes, it has been - but has only sporadically worked. Now, in Leopard, it appears to be a bit more robust and reliable.

HOWEVER, using such provisions between Tiger & Leopard clients doesn't appear to work. Tiger-to-Tiger, or Leopard-to-Leopard is fine, but cross-OS attempts often (usually? always?) result in merely the text entered being shown. Still more issues to be resolved, it appears...
