One nice Keynote and Pages feature is the incredibly useful Web View, which allows you to easily drop a website into your presentation, even setting it to auto-update. This can be far more elegant than screen shots.
However, there is no obvious way to integrate Web Views into Keynote '08's Smart Builds, which allow you to quickly create multi-image animations on a slide. A simple cut and paste trick however, does seem to work:
- In Keynote (iWork '08), choose Insert » Web View.
- In the Inspector, enter the URL of the site you wish to display.
- Your site will appear in the Web View panel on the slide. Ensure that it is selected (square resize handles should be visible) and choose Edit » Cut, or press Command-X.
- Choose Insert » Smart Build, and then choose an effect type.
- A grey transparent panel appears and a dotted box labeled "Drop Image Here." Select the box, and it should highlight with a yellow dotted border.
- Choose Edit » Paste, or press Command-V, and your Web View appears in the Smart Build.
- Continue this process to insert multiple live web sites into the Smart Build.
Note that you cannot select the Web View and change its parameters in the Inspector once it's been pasted into the Smart Build. You'll need to go through the cut and paste trick to make changes to it, such as edit the URL or to change the live updating setting.
Perhaps the next version of Keynote will allow a more explicit way of combining and editing Web Views and Smart Builds?
