10.5: Rearrange entire Spaces panes via drag and drop System 10.5
If you open Spaces (using F8 by default), in addition to dragging open windows from pane to pane (space to space), you can also drag each space to different positions by clicking and dragging the pane itself (the background the windows rest upon) overtop another space. 2br I suppose this could be very useful, however it is worth noting that if you move space 1 into the position of space 2 (for example), an application set to always open on space 1 will not be reassigned to space 2. It will still open on position of space 1.

The visual cue of dragging a space from one position to the next is actually visually misleading; you are really dragging all the currently open windows from one space to the next... not actually replacing one space with another.

I'd advise against this one in most cases. As I wrote in Confessions of a Space-oholic, one tip to getting the most out of Spaces is to assign your primary applications to a given space. Once done, it doesn't take very long before you subconsciously "know" where you're currently located and from there where you need to go to get to Mail or the Finder or Photoshop.

Swapping applications around can screw with that spatial awareness, and ends up making you "think" about where you need to be. This often to the point of popping up the Spaces overview just to confirm that Word is in fact now in the next space to the left.

that reminds me of what one of my friends did:

:P i'm sure making an applescript to do the initial scrambling wouldn't be terribly difficult.

Wouldn't it be great if the Spaces themselves could all have different background images? Not only would it make for a fun puzzle game in the Spaces overview, it would be immensely useful for knowing which Space you were in.

While I'm at it, wouldn't it be helpful if you drag a window half way off the screen, the other half would show up in the space adjacent to it... I'm trying to like Spaces, I just feel I need more subtle visual cues like these to make me feel I'm actual using one big giant desktop.
