Quickly shift diagonally between spaces System 10.5
If you're using a multi-space setup with Leopard's spaces, you can easily move diagonally in any direction by hitting Control and then two arrow keys at once. This works on any space scheme that includes more than one row and column, and if you tap all three keys twice, it'll move you diagonally twice. OS X will still shift the screen vertically then horizontally each time, but the end result will have you where you need to be.

An example of this in action would be, using the default 2x2 setup, to move from space one to space four by pressing Control and both Down Arrow and Right Arrow.

[robg adds: This may seem intuitive, but I've been so ingrained to not press multiple keys at once that I'd been pressing each key separately.]

You can use just 2 keys instead of 3.

In the standard 2x2 set up say you're in the top left pane (pane 1). Hit CTRL +left arrow to diagonally jump down to the bottom right (pane 4).

If you're in the bottom left pane (pane 3) hit CTRL +left arrow to diagonally jump up to the top right pane (pane 2).

You're making it harder than it has to be

Or you could just make life easy on yourself and press Ctrl-4 to go to the bottom right space in a 2x2 setup and not have to stop and think about what direction it's in relative to the current space.

No, Mac since 1984. You?

It's not really pressing both at once though, is it?

When I try this, I don't actually move diagonally. It's more like down then right (or vice versa, for example). Control is just a modifier so all we're doing is pressing ctrl-down then ctrl-right in fast succession. This works because the order does not matter.

I don't see how this is really a hint.

non-hint

Pressing two totally obvious keys? That's not worthy of a hint! Besides that doesn't give real diagonal move like Ctrl+1, Cltr+4, just (gasp!) moves in one direction and then another.
