10.5: New 10.5-only RSS feeds added - updated Site News
Update: Based on the comments to this story, I did some investigating, and we did indeed have some issues with the feeds. Unfortunately, to fix them I had to basically reset the feeds, which means you will probably want to re-subscribe to the ones you're interested in using. The links below are now correct for each feed.

Both feeds seem to work fine for me in 10.5 in Google Reader and NetNewsWire. Using Mail's RSS reader, the 'all tips' feed only shows one tip, while the 'System only' feed shows what it's supposed to show. I do not know why this is happening, but we're looking into it.

We have two new RSS feeds available, specifically for OS X 10.5 tips:
  • All 10.5 tips: This feed includes all tips that are coded with the 10.5: title prefix. This is probably the more useful of the two feeds, as you'll see everything about 10.5.
  • 10.5 System tips only: All the tips in the actual System 10.5 category.
And starting Monday, you'll see quite a jump in the 10.5 tip activity -- there have been over 140 submissions since Thursday morning, and I've got another 20 or tips that I'm ready to write up (if they haven't been submitted -- better for all of you relative to the contest if I write as few of the hints as possible, right?).

Overall, I'm really enjoying the new OS X release, aside from a few irritating things that I hope are resolved by Apple or creative third parties. But more on that in the future...for now, on with the tips!

if we are already signed up for the regular rss feed will we still get the 10.5 stuff or will that be segregated out to the new feeds?

If you're signed up for the full feed, then you'll see all the 10.5 stuff in there. These are just for folks who only want 10.5 tips.

10.5: Quicktime Fix for Flash Content
Authored by: davegillam on Oct 28, '07 10:47:21AM

G5 PPC dual 2GHz - clean erase/install to new empty internal disk - Quicktime 7.2.1 would not display Flash content (got broken-Q (?-Q) gif in place of content). Solved by getting a fresh copy of "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player Enabler.plugin" and "/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Flash Player.plugin". The "Flash Player Enabler" plugin was missing, the other was for good measure. Repair Permissions, installing new Adobe Flash Player, etc. did not solve issue. Could not downgrade to Quicktime 7.2.0 because there was no 7.2.1 receipt to eliminate, and system refused the 7.2.0 install because it already had 7.2.1 installed.
Intel Leopard apparent does not have this issue, so missing plug-ins may be missing only in the PPC version, not the Universal/Intel version.

Nope, I saw this on Macintel too with my MacBook Pro and C2Mini. And in my case, eliminating the older Rosetta plugins [Director / Flash / old *.xpi plugins].. followed by an install of new[er] stuff from Adobe solved the problem.

I'm not sure if anyone else is seeing this behavior, but I subscribed to the 10.5 only thread with Google Reader. 10.5 titled updates are showing up but any time a title is clicked (permalink) I am taken to the Mac OS X Hints front page.

I am seeing the same thing. Looks like the RSS feed is set up incorrectly.

I think the links to the two feeds are flip-flopped. One is leopard, and the other is leopardsystem

hello !

THat's very Strange, I got a problem :

I'm trying to add feed with the 'apple Mail' of Leopard,
this feed : http://feeds.macworld.com/macosxhints/leopardsystem

and I got only this message.
But I should be able to see all other 10.5 system messages isn't ?
(Yes 'cause when I add the feed to igoogle I got several messages...

Is there a bug,
Is the apple mail feed reader too buggy ?
Is it me ?
Is it (no no no?) macosxhints leopard feed not compliant ?! (impossible!) héhé...

Thanks for any answers.

PS : When I add the RSS of all M.O.S.X.H articles, It works and rocks...

The RSS feed is still broken for me. (Links all go to the main tip.)

Same problem here for me. Macbook Core Duo (Black), OSX 10.5, Firefox 2.0.0.8 using Netvibes. Article titles all show up, but all link to the same article!

It appears there's still a problem with the Leopard fee. Using 10.4.10, in NetNewsWire and Google Reader the Leopard feed links redirect to www.macosxhints.com, but the Leopard System feed and links work correctly in both readers.

We believe this is now, finally, fixed. Sorry for all the troubles. (Interestingly, the same problem existed with the 10.4-only feed, but I never heard about it from anyone :) ).
