A fix for keychain locking issues with SSHKeychain Apps
I recently went through an episode where every time I turned around, my keychain would lock, and I would have to enter my password to several stacked-up "want to use my keychain" boxes. I ran Keychain First Aid (in the Keychain Access menu in Keychain Access), and nothing was wrong with the keychain. I also fiddled with all of the various options for when to lock the keychain, and nothing helped.

I searched here and everywhere, but couldn't find a clue as to the problem. But, after the umpteenth session of googling, I came across a brief mention that SSHKeyChain, a great little program that I use and love, might lock the keychain by default every time the screen saver activates.

I looked through the SSHKeyChain preferences, and eventually, I discovered that if you go to the Security tab and select "Use custom security settings," a bunch of additional options show up, including an "On screensaver" menu that allows you to specify "No action." This completely resolved the issue.

Admittedly, this is not a very exciting hint, but words cannot express the relief I felt when my screen saver quit and the little lock icon was still unlocked.

Thank you, thank you! I was getting sick to death of having to enter my keychain password about 30 times a day.

KEYCHAIN Problems:
Go to User/Library/login.keychain
Trash this file, then log-out.
Log in, then everything fine.

Keychain will stop asking for sign-on permissions.

So are you saying that login can only unlock the keychain which is named after your username?

Bad advice!

Kiss your personal keychain items goodbye if you delete a ~/Library/Keychain/login.keychain file they're saved in, like they are on my systems.

I resisted doing this because I didn't want to lose my keychain. And, I don't think it would work in this case, because if SSHKeyChain is running, it explicitly locks the keychain when the screensaver starts up (unless is you manually disable it).

Sorry but this was not sufficient in the case of ssh-keychain problem.
Only the solution of gshenaut is ok.

Use custom security settings = tick

On keychain events = both
(remove keys on keychain lock and add keys on keychain unlock)

On screensaver = remove keys from agent

Funny, this "feature" is something I really like. I would rather have to type my password 30 times a day, then potentially have anyone who has physical access to my unattended (at times) laptop. Then again, I have an encrypted image I keep all work documents on, and have it unmount when my laptop sleeps or the screensaver comes on. Guess I work in an environment that has "bad people TM" working around me. It has given me reason to be overly security conscience.

What do you mean not a very exciting hint? You should have seen my face when i read this. I've been clicking on options all week to see where I messed up and this just saved me a lot of hairloss! My machine is in a relatively safe environment and locking the system requires a password already, not much sense in having to retype it over-and-over-and-over-again... thanks a million!

Oh gosh! That's how made my keychain annoy me: Well, I wasted a lot of keystrokes over the past three months, since i caused this to happen upgrading and changing so many preferences.

Thanks, everything seems so more tidy and clean, and less annoying now. (-:
