iWork '08 trial and time zone changes Apps
Not really a hint, more a warning...

Yesterday while flying from old Europe to the US, I suddenly found that despite still having two weeks remaining on my trial version of iWork, it claimed the trial period was over. I was quite upset, even more so as I have ordered it through my company, but have not received the final key yet.

It appears that the culpridt is the Date & Time System Preferences panel. I had switched my time zone from Paris to San Francisco time, and that seemed to trigger the expiration.

So if you plan to test iWork and travel, do not change the time zone during the trial period.

[robg adds: I can't easily confirm this one, as I have the full iWork installed on all my machines. If someone can confirm, please post in the comments.]

I had the same problem so I deleted the following file:

Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork08.plist

I can also confirm this. Happened to me twice when I traveled accross the mountains for the weekend. Deleting the .plist file fixed it for me as well.

I've found that you can delete the <Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWork08.plist> file and actually get another 30 day trial. Or so it seems. I live in Vancouver and decided to buy iWork 08 when I visited Calgary. But while there I found out that on-one had any. They were all sold out, and my trial period had just lapsed. When I returned home to Vancouver everyone here was sold out as well. Hmm.

After reading these comments I decided to try your suggestion and actually signed up for another 30 day trial. I immediately opened several iWork 08 layout files and saved them all as iWork 06 just in case.

The second iWork 08 trial period is still working. It will be interesting to see if Apple's server catches this. In any case it was a good way for me to get around the supply problem Apple seems to have.

Yup, that happened to me too. I now have a full license, but it was bad to have the trial expire on you when you didn't expect it. Good I hadn't saved any Keynotes in the 08 format yet.

Thanks for the help. At Apple's discussion this problem while addressed differently is still not answered. Your fix is so simple and actually works. I'll pass it on.
