[robg adds: In my testing, this worked just fine when the Sticky was expanded -- just hover over some portion of the title bar, and you'll see the creation and modification info pop-up. Nifty trick.]

Discover a Sticky note's creation and modification dates
Sep 13, '07 07:30:00AM • Contributed by: figz
When a note in Stickies is collapsed (double-click on its title bar or type Command-M), you can hover the mouse on the title bar to see a tooltip appear that shows the Sticky's creation and modification dates. For some reason, this doesn't work when the Sticky is expanded.

Discover a Sticky note's creation and modification dates
For me it works hovering over ANY part of the sticky. And I find it extremely annoying, since it stays and usually covers up much of the note instead of disappearing after a short time.

ditto. i have the same behavior as you. im using 10.4.10, fwiw.

My experience is identical to the OP's. Only works for minimized notes.

It's interesting that there are 3 different reports. I wonder if we're all using different versions of Stickies.

I'm running Mac OS v10.4.10 and Stickies v5.1.0.
On one of my Stickies, I can hover on the closed title bar, or anywhere on the open Stickie (including the title bar), in order to display the creation/modification dates. And yes, I have to move the mouse cursor off of that open Stickie to make the date info disappear. On my other five Stickies, I can only produce the creation/modification dates by hovering over the closed title bar. When those Stickies are open, nothing appears. Searching Stickies Help using the term 'date', I found this: Showing when a sticky note was created and last edited The five uncooperative Stickies were all created between 11/04 and 9/06. The cooperative Stickie was created last week. Therefore, I'm hypothesizing that older Stickies created under Panther and/or earlier versions of Tiger (and/or earlier versions of Stickies) display the date info only when hovering on the closed title bar. Stickies created using more recent versions of Tiger (and/or Stickies) display the date info when hovering anywhere, as advertised. (I didn't switch to Tiger until early '07, btw.) Creating a new test Stickie I find that, yes, the date info shows up when I hover anywhere on that open or closed note, too. Perhaps someone else who has old Stickie notes but is running the latest versions of the Mac OS and Stickies program can confirm these hovering distinctions. Good tip, in any case, and useful comments. Thanks!

P.S. By "closed" I meant "minimized," of course.

I can confirm your findings. My stickie notes behave the exact same way. |
