Be aware of a Quicken Scheduler issue with some apps Apps
I'm a long-time Quicken user, though I've never really taken advantage of its online features -- the ability to download transactions directly from the bank. Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet, and set up both our bank and our credit card, and enabled the Quicken Scheduler, which automates the acquisition of the data from financial institutions. I did this fairly late yesterday, and didn't use the machine much after that.

Today, while posting hints, I noticed that my TypeIt4Me shortcuts weren't working. As I have TextExpander installed as well, I turned TypeIt4Me off and enabled TextExpander. No joy there, either. I also double-checked that the 'Enable access for assistive devices' box was checked in the Universal Access System Preferences panel. When a restart didn't clear things up, I set to work with Google, and quickly found the answer on TextExpander's pages:
I started using Quicken and now TextExpander snippets don't expand. Why not?

There is a conflict between the Quicken Scheduler and all keylogger programs, including TextExpander. When the Quicken Scheduler is running, expansions can't be triggered via the keyboard, but can still be accessed via the TextExpander menu.
Since the Quicken Scheduler is a background application, that basically means you can't use TypeIt4Me or TextExpander or any other "key logging" type of program when you have an active schedule in Quicken. In Quicken, you need to go to Online » Scheduled Updates and disable any of your scheduled updates. Once I did that, the Quicken Scheduler vanished, and TypeIt4Me started working again as usual. Since I use TypeIt4Me pretty much constantly, it made sense to give up on my Quicken automatic updates. You can still update using online information relatively easily; just use the Online » One Step Update to do the job.

Offtopic: More proof that Quicken is a horrid program. It hasn't gotten a significant new feature in 10 years, other than carbonization and (someday) being migrated to Intel. Compare to Quicken on Windows which has to compete with Microsoft Money. Night and day.

And yet, there's no significant competition, due to the lock-in with accessing financial transactions, or Palm integration (ala Pocket Quicken).

I had this same problem. It wasn't resolved until I upgraded to another computer. Wish I had known that was the issue.

Also agree that Quicken is not as Mac friendly as it could, but it seems like it's industry standard. I wish there were alternative applications. And for some reason I can't really get my Paypal transactions to download in quick very well.

Quicken Scheduler issue, with Halo
Authored by: LuisOrtiz on Aug 25, '07 03:44:24AM

I've had a problem with "Halo: Combat Evolved" where it would cease to recognize the keyboard for quite some time now. After reading this hint, I disabled the Quicken Scheduler, on the off chance that it might help.

¡Joy!

I just wish I had noticed that Halo stopped working after I upgraded to Quicken 2007. The older 2005 release did not cause this problem with Halo.
