Use .Mac personal domains without using iWeb '08 Internet
You can use the dotMac personal domain service without having to actually use iWeb '08. To do so, simply follow the instructions on the dotMac website about using Personal Domains. Once you've got as far as setting up your domain with your registrar, you can use any software you wish (RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Hand coding even) to create your own site.

Simply navigate to your iDisk and make sure you place all your html files in the following folder: iDisk » Web » Sites. Anything in this Sites folder will be used by the personal domain service. I've made a simple 'hello world' HTML file and placed it in the Sites folder. As long as there is at least an index.html file there, it works correctly.

I do not have privileges to to create a folder called "Web" on the root of my iDisk. How did you accomplish this?

The Web folder is created once you have an iWeb Site published. All your iWeb files go there on your iDisk.

If you want to "Use .Mac personal domains without using iWeb '08" without using iWeb, as the title of this hint would suggest, you can create the Web directory (without using iWeb) by opening the Terminal, (and not iWeb):
    cd /Volumes/iDisk-name/
    mkdir Web
(Note how I didn't use iWeb.)

Unfortunately, once it's created, you can't then delete the Web directory. Not even with iWeb.

Ooooh.

I guess I mis-read this hint's title. I read it as "Use .Mac personal domains without using iWeb".

that's great! But if I'm using rapidweaver for my personal site, and I don't want to publish the WHOLE site for one blog entry change, will rapidweaver support publishing to this folder? Or do I need to tell it to publish to a folder & then copy that folder manually (which I guess is what I fear I'll have to do, forcing a full reload with each update). I guess instead of using the ".mac" publish settings I need to manually configure it to publish to the sites folder, eh? How's that going to work with smart publishing?

Sorry, I know the theory of a lot of the stuff but the practical implementation sometimes eludes me. Well, most of the time ;-)

.Mac cannot work with Wordpress as it doesn't support PHP.

There should already be a folder called 'Web' on your iDisk. If it isn't there, open up iWeb and it should make it visible.

You can use RapidWeaver to publish to the Web folder and to only publish changes. Instead of using the 'Publish' option, export your site fully first to the Web folder on your iDisk - then use the Export Changes option in the File menu.
