Apple Aluminium Keyboard media keys serve many roles
Aug 17, '07 07:30:00AM • Contributed by: Superboy
I bought a new aluminum Apple Keyboard a few days ago, and found the media keys (F7, F8 and F9) very useful for controlling iTunes. Then I discovered after putting a DVD into my Mac Pro that the media keys stop controlling iTunes and control DVD Player instead. Handy to use the keyboard instead of fiddling with a mouse, especially if you have a wireless keyboard!

While we are on the topic of keyboards, as anybody else noticed that the wireless version lacks a number pad (while the usb version is the same as the old layout)? Kind of an odd move I think…

For me, it's a wonderful move. Otherwise the mouse is too far away and I can hurt myself.

I take it you didn't watch the webcast. The reason they did that was to make it more portable, and useful in more situations. A lot of people like to put wireless keyboards in their lap, etc. It also makes the keyboard fit in laptop bags.

the only control i use is play/pause, and i find the Space bar to be a larger and easier target. It works for all media players on the mac (even VLC), and even works for online flash videos.

True but this only works when the media app has focus. The play/pause works globally.
Not for me
I hate this function. The number of times I've been in iPhoto and accidentally started a slideshow...
