Quickly delete large amounts of text on the iPhone iOS devices
This doesn't appear to be covered in the manual, so I thought I'd pass it along. When you're in the iPhone's text entry mode, if you hold the Delete key down, it will delete letter-by-letter for a few seconds, then it will begin deleting entire words.

This is great when replying to e-mails and you want to trim out the unrelated content.

[robg adds: I wouldn't describe the process as "quick," but "quicker than letter by letter." Being able to select a chunk of text would be the best solution; one press of the Delete key would then make it vanish.]

I discovered this also replying to email. Most NUGs request you edit off signatures when you reply so this is a real pain on the iPhone. I hope all those folks with long signatures have to do this 100 times a day. Maybe then they'll realize we don't think they're so cute.

Some long signature here.
I'm telling you know how witty I am.
Oh, I've got something to sell too.
Did I tell you the joke of the day yet.
Repeat....

an alternative is if the text is shown on the screen you could drag tag one area and drag and it will select some text, then select CUT from the menu and don't paste

if you accidently paste just shake and select undo paste.

this is a good idea i also found if you take off the auto-correct and auto-capitalize it greatly reduces lag when typing.. as long as you don't rely on those features to type properly then go for it.
