Watch for a possible iPhone - iCal calendar sync issue iOS devices
I just got an 8GB iPhone and was loving the iCal syncing (among other things). However, I then noticed that the darn thing was syncing with a seemingly random calendar and not the one I originally chose. I proceeded to change the preferred calendar in iTunes when I noticed to my dismay that it reverted back to the one iTunes chose for me! To make a long story short, there seems to be a bug (go figure) in iPhone syncing.

I noticed that the calendar iTunes chose happens to be at the bottom of my list (in iCal), so I just reordered my iCal calendars so that the one I wanted my iPhone to sync to is on the bottom. Problem solved (until Apple gets around to actually fixing this bug).

[robg adds: I haven't had this problem with my iPhone; the chosen calendar seems to 'stick' just fine. In an email exchange with the author, the problem may be caused by the fact that most of his calendar names begin with an "@," which is related to his use of iGTD.]

Watch for a possible iPhone - iCal calendar sync issue

I've been having this same issue. I had originally told iTunes to sync my iPhone with my "Home" calendar (first in my list), but for some reason it decided to defaul to my "PocketMac" calendar (left over from my Blackberry). I went through and recategorized my PocketMac events to my Work and Home calendars last night, deleted the PocketMac calendar, reset the preference to Home in iTunes, resynced, and the problem occurred again... Grr.

I've run into this as well; I've been wondering if it has anything to do with subscribed calendars. There seem to be people having the same issue on the Apple discussion boards as well...

Watch for a possible iPhone - iCal calendar sync issue
Authored by: Djehuti on Jul 13, '07 10:18:32AM

I tried this hint by putting my "Unfiled" calendar at the bottom of the list and it didn't help.

What I did that did work, though, was switch from "All Calendars" to "Selected Calendars". The unwanted calendar was then the only checked calendar in the list, and I could neither uncheck it nor select a different calendar in the "Put new events..." drop-down. I checked my "Unfiled" calendar in the list, and lo and behold iTunes allowed me to select it in the "Put new events..." drop-down list; I then switched back to "All Calendars" and this time the choice stuck.

i also got an 8GB iPhone, and was experiencing the same problem with the syncing of the calanders.....however, i found an alternative work around for this also.

Originally, it was selected to sync all calanders in the list....but i changed that to sync only the selected calanders in the list, and picked only the ones i wanted it to sync....and with that, i was able to then change in the list to a different default calander.

Hope this helps.

I have a very similar problem. 4GB iPhone. For me, it seems to be always wanting my calendar to be "Library", which calendar doesn't actually exist in iTunes. I think that calendar might have been installed a while ago and I deleted it. Somehow iTunes is finding it...

I'm very curious as to why Apple decided iSync (which has worked flawlessly for me since I first tried it with my previous phones) wasn't good enough for the iPhone. Rewriting a working, functional, great piece of software like iSync seems like a mildly retarded move.

I had this problem with iTunes 7.3, but 7.3.1 seems to have fixed for me.

I'm having the same problem, in both iTunes 7.3 and 7.3.1.

Events created on my 8GB iPhone were syncing with the wrong calendar. It was also the last calendar in my list, which happened to be a calendar I subscribe to, so it's read only. It totally sucks because I couldn't move the events because it is read only, and the next time the calendar refreshed, my events would disappear.

I tried moving the calendar I wanted the iPhone sync with to the bottom of the list, but that didn't help. I then deleted, and re-subscribed to the calendar the iPhone was syncing with. Strangely, the iPhone no longer wrote to this calendar, but instead, it created a new calendar with that same name. Luckily, I was able to rename the calendar that the iPhone created, and they are still syncing.

This is clearly a bug.

Just encountered this problem myself.

Noticed after I added the Birthdays calendar (checked the option in iCal's prefs) that events from iPhone were no longer coming up in iCal. Of course Birthdays is last in the list and is read-only.

Noticed in the process that previous events had been being thrown into a net subscribed calendar. What a mess - I exported that calendar and reimported the events into Home calendar.

Switching to sync selected calendars only fixed the syncing issue and events are going to the right place now.

A really bad bug.

Reset sync history might help calendar issues on iPod
Authored by: nwfrg on Oct 11, '07 12:38:43AM

I had a similar prblem with my iPod touch. I solved it by backing up my iCal data (see file menu in iCal) then I opened iSync preferences and reset my sync History. Then back in iTunes I told it sync all calendars and at the very bottom of the Info tab was a checkbox to force new data to my iPodTouch with the next sync operation. That seemed to take care of it for me.

iPhone - iCal calendar sync issue
Authored by: jb54 on Oct 21, '07 06:28:40PM

Sync used to work on my iCal and iPhone, but after I added a subscribed calendar, it stopped. Now (I have since deleted the subscribed calendar) the sync never ends, but no data goes to the iPhone. I just got a new iPhone due to an unrelated battery problem, but that has not solved the iCal sync problem.

Is there some way to reinstall iCal?

Thanks, Jim

I had this problem too, but opening up iSync and clearing the Sync Cache in the preferences (like another reply suggested) fixed this problem immediately.
